Saving water

80% of land under organic cotton is rain-fed meaning that water is more likely to be derived from rainfall rather than surface or ground water irrigation. Growing non-organic cotton accounts for 2.6% of the world’s yearly water usage. One t-shirt made from non-organic cotton represents 2700 litres of water. Organic cotton uses a fraction of the water to grow. Organic farming employs eco-friendly techniques to grow their plants, including rainwater harvesting (69%) for water management.
