Why you should buy this
Using local raw material
Flax has a rich tradition in the polish history. Fields full of sky-blue blossom marked the native landscape of Poland and linen products were a pride of their country. It was synonymous with high quality and luxury and Caligo want’s it to be the same today.
Small scale production
The linen is made in a small factory in Poland, following European standards and salaries. The product itself is then made in Caligo’s studio by skilled seamstresses.
Supporting traditional skills
By choosing the slow way with local raw material and a studio based production, Caligo secure an old way of doing production that needs to be kept alive and mixes new classic products with solid craftsmanship.

By sourcing her raw material from Poland and doing her production at home, Karolina and Caligo supports local manufacturers in the process.

How this linen is made
- Linen is made from flax fibres.
- Flax fibres are taken from the stem of the plant and are naturally smooth and straight.
- They are separated and prepared for retting, a process of water emersion that can take up to a couple of weeks
- Retted stalks are then dried and left to cure into woody stalks
- Next the Scutching begins which involves scraping a small wooden knife down the length of the fibers as they hang vertically, pulling the broken woody bits away from the fiber.
- Once completed the fibres are heckled with a bed of nails and the long ones are selected for spinning, and short ones go into low-quality linen.
- After traditional hand spinning they are generally woven into sheets of linen.
